VIENNA CEMETERY in Beaman, Iowa - Burial Place of Anna Wiese in August of 1893 |
The first thing you'll notice upon finding Anna's grave is that there are a multitude of coins beneath it. We had heard that the caretaker of the cemetery often found coins in sets of 12 - 12 pennies, 12 nickels, 12 dimes and 12 quarters - placed there, but he had not determined who brought them or why they were placed there.

This is Anna's gravestone. The inscription reads: In Memory Of Anna Wiese Foully Murdered Aug. 26, 1893 Ages 20 Yrs., 2 Mos., 15 Ds. Erected By Generous And Sympathizing Friends Vengeance Is Mine Saith the Lord |

Here are two pictures of the coins resting below Anna's gravestone. As you can see, there appear to be many more than 12 of each coin which may mean that the multitudes of 12 have shown up on several different occasions. Other pictures we have seen show the coins on the white slanted surface right beneath Anna's name, but this is not how we found them. |
